A BARREL ROLL AT D1GP

While Formula Drift took to the Northwest for round five over the weekend, the D1 Grand Prix series was also in action at the high speed Autopolis circuit in Kyushu. Wet weather made for some challenging conditions that resulted in one of the most dramatic drifting crashes we’ve seen in a while.

TANIGUCHI’S D1 HKS 86

As you have probably gathered from the D1 Odaiba coverage so far, Nobuteru Taniguchi’s HKS Toyota 86 wasn’t quite ready yet. HKS have been working around the clock to create bespoke parts for the build, upgrades that might be making it to production in the future so that 86/BRZ/FRS owners will have more power to play with. The 86 was on display in the paddock and HKS staff had no problem showing what they have so far done to the engine and other areas of the car.

Drift Battle - Touge Battle

Basically 10 rounds of different Japanese sports cars race against each other in a drift battle special. All the usuals - Integra R, D1 and S15 Silvia, Esprit NSX, R34GTR, RX7. RX8 etc... what you would expect.

The winding road they have chosen is at the "Gunma Cycle Sports Center" in Gunma prefecture, about 100km Northwest of Tokyo.

The road has of course been closed down for the event.

Drift Allstars has always had both a strong European following, but with such a high percentage of Irish drivers it seemed fitting to launch our first stop of the 2012 international tour at this famous venue at Punchestown. With competitive events taking place at the venue since 2006, could this be the biggest drift event ever to hit Ireland?
