While we were at the Ebisu Circuit Natsumatsuri – Summer Drift Festival, I couldn't take my eyes off this GX71 Toyota Cresta that was running Ebisu's Touge course! It's no secret that I absolutely love 1980sToyotas, but just look at how clean this Cresta is! This is a Toyota Cressida in the USA… isn't this clean Cresta inspiring? I know it makes me want to look for a clean Cressida with 5-speed manual transmission!

GX71 CRESTA AT EBISU TOUGE

MARK ARCENAL’S FATLACE S14
The Fatlace S14 has seen a lot of different looks over the years. But of all the different variations, its current state is my favorite.
When Mark gave me the opportunity to drive this car to learn the basics of drifting, I was expecting the car to be this untamed beast which will take hours to get used to. But oh was I wrong. The car was extremely easy to drive. There was more than enough power to have fun with and how the car was going to react was very predictable.
RE-POWERED NA6CE IN BC
If you look at all of Mazda’s sports cars from recent times, the two that stand out the most have to be the RX7 and the MX-5. The “Seven” is of course known for its unconventional rotary engine while the MX-5 is the world’s best selling sports car due to its low price and high fun factor. What do you get when you combine both? You get cars like this NA6CE Miata owned by AJ Phelps from the Vancouver, BC area. AJ saw that we were featuring Mazda this month and sent us some photos of his project, and we quickly agreed that this car deserved to be featured

YSR NA SUPRA
There is one thing about Japan that you’ve just got to love. No matter how many tuning shops and modified cars there are out there, finding something very special and most importantly of all, different, is not as hard as some may think.
BOSOZOKU STYLED CELICA
After all the new school cars we've been featuring on Speedhunters, I found this Toyota Celica in true Bosozoku style. This car caught my attention a while ago, but I knew it would be a great addition to this month's theme. This Celica was build in 1975 for the Australian market but after Alfonzo, the owner, picked it up back in 2006 he transformed the car into this midnight crawler. It wouldn't be out of place during one of the many midnight meetings at Daikoku Futo.
RISKY DEVIL 180SX
There are certain cars that make an lasting impression, and it’s no different with this 180SX. I have seen this car on so many automotive forums from around the world, I knew I had to feature it here on Speedhunters. Last weekend, I had a party at my house with lots of friends, not all of them are into cars, and when I showed them these pictures even they said ‘Hell Yeah’. That’s the same feeling I got when I first saw this car.
12SEC CIVIC STREET CAR
Our Street Cars & Sleepers month is coming to a close, but we still have some impressive cars coming your way. Take for example, Zico Tran’s K20A-powered Civic.
THE ULTIMATE STREET KPGC10
It isn't every day you come across a car like this, that's for sure. It all happened during a driving expedition my friends and I organized last fall, something we have been doing for years now. The idea is to all meet up at the Hakone Turnpike, one of Japan's most well known driving roads, and drive up into the mountains and down into the Izu peninsula through the appropriately named "Izu Skyline" pass. Which is precisely where I first saw this impossibly spotless Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R.
THE RESURRECTED SR86
TOP SECRET VQ32 SKYLINE GT-R
THE FATLACE SKYLINES
There was the soft pitter-patter of dew as it journeyed its way down the trees, the gentle creaking of the moisture rich trees as they swayed in the breeze, and the soft rustle of the leaves. My wet boots sunk into the soft undergrowth and crunched along as I trundled through the forest. The clicks of my camera echoed in the stillness of the forest.
PS13
JDM PS13

A question for our readers outside of Japan, can you remember the very first time you were exposed to contemporary Japanese car culture and drifting? Maybe it’s a case of looking back at things with rose tinted glasses, but I still have a fondness for JDM cars from the late 90s and early 00s. Things seemed a lot simpler back then as there was quite a simple equation to having a good looking car: take your base car + bodykit from a reputable source + increase power + lower car + add wide wheels = guaranteed success.
Today, in my opinion (not that anyone cares) things have become too complicated. There are so many variations of style and differing scenes that things have turned into a bit of a strange concoction – the Japanese scene is now taking styling cues from the US scene which was originally inspired by the Japanese and it’s just become a big, giant mess.

ONE DIFFERENT S15
I think it’s pretty safe to say that by now, anyone with a remote interest in drifting, will be familiar with Super Made. Out of the ton of drift shops in Japan, the guys at Super Made have established themselves as obvious innovators. As you may recall last month, we took a look at one of their latest cars, a JZS161 Aristo, which beautifully fuses VIP and drift styles together in an attempt to push the boundaries of what customization is all about. The result may not please everyone, but you will find analogies in other very different art forms, where those that step out of the box are equally commended and criticized for their work.
Best RPS13 ever built in Ireland?
Nissan 180SX RPS13
The Irish modified car scene is a strange one. On one hand, you have
lots of people who only follow the pack, scared to move outside of their
comfort zones. On the other hand, you have people like Keith Wheldon
who prefers to go his own way. You can check out the full and in-depth
feature on Speedhunters but I’ll summarize Keith’s 180SX in one sentence
– this is the best built and most considered RPS13 ever built in
Ireland. Oh, and it’s his daily driver too …
